OPPO Collaborates with Thales for world's first 5G SA-Compatible eSIM

OPPO today announced the world’s first 5G SA-Compatible eSIM on its recently released flagship 5G smartphone, the OPPO Find X3 Pro, which was developed in collaboration with Thales, the world’s top eSIM connectivity management company. The 5G Standalone (SA) eSIM-based OPPO Find X3 Pro will give customers the superior 5G experience given by 5G SA networks and the benefits of eSIM technology to both consumers and mobile operators.

In contrast to traditional SIM cards, which must be manually put into devices, eSIM, or embedded SIM, is built directly into the device. When picking connection plans from their preferred mobile operators from their smartphone, users may enjoy a trusted and seamless digital experience. As a result, the Thales eSIM helps mobile carriers in meeting the challenge of digital transformation. eSIMs are widely used in Connected Vehicles and the Industrial Internet of Things, in addition to smartphones and wearables such as smartwatches (IIOT).

As the mainstream 5G futureproof infrastructure, major mobile operators worldwide are deploying 5G SA (Standalone) networks with lower latency, greater flexibility, and a more comprehensive 5G experience. OPPO and Thales, as the first companies in the world to enable a 5G SA network on an eSIM-powered device, are at the forefront of 5G technology development.

Thales is the world’s leading provider of both hardware-based eSIM and eSIM connectivity management, having been awarded over 200 eSIM management platforms by mobile operators, operator alliances, MVNOs, and OEMs on all continents. Thales eSIM solutions have already been included in the OPPO Watch, OPPO’s first smartwatch with a built-in cellular connection, as OPPO’s key eSIM solutions partner.

Through eSIM server validation, device debugging, verification, function development, and other activities, OPPO and Thales closely integrated Thales’ innovative eSIM solution into the Find X3 Pro. OPPO and Thales have also collaborated with mobile operators to conduct network compatibility testing to ensure that users can use their Find X3 Pro with two simultaneous active lines (based on removable SIM and an eSIM). This partnership also demonstrates that 5G SA has been successfully implemented on an eSIM-compatible device for the first time.

OPPO began researching and developing eSIM technology in 2018 in response to user needs and experiences and has since introduced a range of eSIM-Compatible smartphones and smartwatches. The OPPO Find X3 Pro with 5G SA-Compatible eSIM not only demonstrates OPPO’s strong technical expertise and insights into eSIM technology, but it also shows OPPO’s investments in accelerating the implementation of 5G SA networks, allowing users to benefit from 5G experiences as soon as possible.
